Willie Nelson’s Lifetime Achievement Award was given to country music great George Strait at the 2024 CMA Awards. At the event on November 20, Strait showed his deep appreciation for all the people who have helped him throughout his long and successful career.
Strait’s moving speech thanked his family for being there and loving him. He mentioned his wife of 53 years, Norma, and their son Bubba. Bubba was at the event with his wife Tamara and their children, Jillian and Harvey.
“I’m humbled to join the remarkable recipients of this award, bearing the name of the iconic Willie Nelson,” Strait told us. “I’m glad I got ’em before you!” he joked as he praised the talented artists who sang his songs.
The night had great performances by Jamey Johnson and Miranda Lambert, who paid respect to Strait’s famous albums. Strait also used the chance to honour his late coaches, Erv Woosley and Tom Foote.
Strait left behind an amazing 72 CMA awards and 83 nominations, making his mark on music history. Several times, he has been named Impact Artist of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, and Entertainer of the Year.

Jennifer, the couple’s daughter, died in a terrible car accident in 1986. Her death led to the creation of the Jennifer Strait Memorial Foundation.
Bubba Strait, who is the son of George Strait Sr., has joined his father in the music business by performing on and writing songs for his father’s records. He is married to Tamara and they have two kids: George “Harvey” Strait III and Jilliann Louise Strait.
